The Full Works Concert – Friday 4 October: A Coronation Special

A unique concert from Windsor Castle to mark HM the Queen's 60-year reign, featuring an interview with HRH The Earl of Wessex.

Tonight, Jane Jones presents a very special Full Works Concert, in celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s 60-year reign.

On 25 September, Classic FM recorded a unique concert at Windsor Castle, as part of the Windsor Festival – of which HRH The Earl of Wessex is the Patron.

Prior to the concert, Jane visited the Earl’s home in Bagshot to interview him about his involvement in the Festival, his thoughts about music-making in the UK, and his reflections on what has been an extraordinary year so far for the royal family. Segments from this interview will feature throughout the evening’s concert broadcast.

The concert saw the Choirs of the Chapels Royal and Windsor’s own St. George’s Chapel combine for the first time, to present works from the Coronation paired with choral favourites and little-known gems. In 1953, at the suggestion of Vaughan Williams, and the approval of the Queen, an arrangement of the hymn Old Hundredth was included as a congregational item in the proceedings – and this aspect of the original service was recreated on the night.
