Vocal Cords up close while singing
03:15
WARNING: FAIRLY DISGUSTING VIDEO. The human voice box is an amazing thing. See it in action in this unique video.
Ever wondered what’s happening in your throat when you sing? Wonder no more, because this uncompromising video (which includes a bonus close-up of nasal hairs) leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination.
A choir used endoscopes to film themselves from the inside while they sang a beautiful 'Kyrie' from Tomás Luis de Victoria’s 'Missa O Magnum Mysterium'.
There’s something very jarring about hearing such beautiful singing coming out of organic structures that would not be out of place on the set of Alien. In fact, we are seeing the vocal folds (the two flaps either side of the opening) vibrate over the trachea.
As one YouTube user commented: “I’m so fascinated and so grossed out at the same time.”
Enjoy!
