    Barbara Joan ‘Barbra’ Streisand was born on 24 April 1942 in Williamsburg, New York City. She was born to Jewish parents: her mother Diana – who was a soprano singer in her youth but later became a school secretary – and her father Emanuel, a high school teacher.

    Although Streisand always knew she had a strong singing voice, she longed to have an acting career. Since the 1970s, Streisand has starred in some of the most successful musical drama films to-date.
