1. Female Artist: Nicola Benedetti
Alison Balsom’s album, ‘Seraph’, and Joyce DiDonato’s ‘Diva Divo – Opera Arias’ album were also nominated in the Female Artist category, but Nicola Benedetti takes the crown. She is the most nominated British female at the Classic BRIT Awards, and she adds this award to the ‘Young British Classical Performer’ Award she won in 2008.

3. MasterCard Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award: Miloš Karadaglić ‘Latino'
One of two nominations for Miloš, he beat Noah Stewart and Benjamin Grosvenor to the title of Breakthrough Artist of the Year. He was also nominated in the Classic FM Album of the Year category for his album ‘The Guitar’. Picture: PA

6. Composer: John Williams ‘War Horse’, ‘The Adventures of Tintin’
John Williams, winner of the Lifetime Achivement Award, takes home his second award of the night, beating Ennio Morricone and Paul Mealor with his album of film music.

7. International Artist of the Year in Association with Raymond Weil: Andrea Bocelli
A big year for Andrea Bocelli, who is about to embark on his UK tour. He has been an international superstar for almost 20 years, and has sold more than 75 million records.

A hotly contested category this year, Vasily Petrenko was up against Lang Lang and Andrea Bocelli. But his albums of wonderful Russian music came out on top.

12. Classic BRITs Single of the Year: Military Wives/Gareth Malone ‘Wherever You Are'
Selling more than 556,000 copies in its first week of release, ‘Wherever You Are’ is now not only the Christmas No. 1 2011, but also the Classic BRITs Single of the Year in Association with iTunes.

15. Lifetime Achievement Award: John Williams
A legend in the world of film music, John Williams is the star of tonight’s show, winning not only the Composer category, but also the Lifetime Achievement Award. The London Chamber Orchestra performed a musical montage of his hit movie soundtracks to celebrate the award. He spoke to Classic FM earlier this year.

16. Classic FM Album of the Year in Association with MasterCard: André Rieu ‘And The Waltz Goes On’
You voted in your thousands, and crowned André Rieu your winner of Classic FM Album of the Year. His lively Viennese music (performed in full ballroom grandeur) beat the likes of Russell Watson and Andrea Bocelli.
