Williams will be given the Lifetime Achievement Award alongside performances from Andre Rieu, Nicola Benedetti and Andrea Bocelli
The movie soundtrack legend John Williams is to be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's Classic BRIT Awards. The ceremony, taking place at London's Royal Albert Hall on October 2nd, will also feature performances from Andre Rieu, Nicola Benedetti and Andrea Bocelli.
John Williams will be given his award for his long-standing service to film music. His soundtracks include Jaws, Star Wars, Harry Potter and, more recently, War Horse. He has been nominated for a staggering 47 Academy Awards and won five.
Classic FM's Myleene Klass will host the Classic BRIT Awards, which will climax with a stunning tribute to John Williams' work. Now in its 13th year, the Classic BRITs last year broadened its reach to include musical theatre and film music. Last year's show included performances from the cast of Les Miserables and Shirley Bassey.
Before the awards proper, though, there will be a launch show where the nominations for this year's awards will be announced. Taking place on September 6th at London's Savoy Hotel and hosted by Classic FM's Margherita Taylor, the launch will feature performances from vocal quartet Amore, saxophonist Amy Dickson and tenor Noah Stewart.
The awards ceremony itself will be broadcast on ITV1 in October. Tickets are on sale from the Royal Albert Hall box office.
John Williams will also be the subject of an exclusive interview on Classic FM this Monday from 8pm. Interviewed by Tommy Pearson, the programme dedicates two hours to the life of the Hollywood great.
