Rings lord of Classic FM Movie Music Chart
Howard Shore’s music for The Lord of the Rings has defeated Star Wars to become number one in the Classic FM Movie Music Chart.
Classic FM Magazine’s annual poll invites Classic FM listeners and readers to nominate their favourite soundtrack. This year you replied in your thousands, gaining The Lord of the Rings its place at number one.
John Williams’ Star Wars, the highest placed entry in 2009, has dropped back to number three, with Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard’s soundtrack to Gladiator coming in at number two. The remaining two positions in the top five go to Ennio Morricone’s The Mission and Klaus Badelt’s Pirates of the Caribbean.
John Williams has four entries in the top ten: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List and Star Wars, and John Barry has two: Dances with Wolves and Out of Africa.
The complete 2010 Movie Music Chart is published in this month’s Classic FM Magazine, on sale from Tuesday 31 August, along with interviews with winning composer Howard Shore, Michael Nyman and Debbie Wiseman, and a history of film music.
