Anna Netrebko's new album, Verdi, has enjoyed no. 1 chart success in Austria, as well as placing in the pop charts in several other countries in Europe.
As well as the no. 1 in the Austrian pop chart, the album of Verdi vocal works managed to get to no. 6 in Germany, no. 8 in Denmark and no. 1 in the Russian iTunes charts.
Netrebko herself commented on the incredible success via the Deutsche Grammophon website: "I couldn't be happier that Verdi's music is reaching such a wide audience, especially with this year being his bicentennial."
She is currently ahead of such artists in the Austrian charts as Hansi Hinterseer, Andreas Gabalier and Beatrice Egli.
The soprano is due to appear at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, singing the role of Tatiana in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, conducted by Valery Gergiev, on September 23rd.
